Today Sony Ericsson announced the second model in the Xperia series. Xperia X2 is running on the brand new Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system
Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 is one of many recently announced mobile phones running the latest operating system from Microsoft. The first batch of Windows Mobile devices should be available in stores around October 6th 2009. It is unknow if the Xperia X2 are one of those.
As the predecessor X1, the X2 has slightly larger display (3.2 inches versus the X1 3 inches). The two models have the same form but there are more hardward differences than the larger display. Comparing the X2 to the older X1 shows these differences: X2 has Accelerometer, 8.1 megapixels camera, flash, Windows Mobile 6.5, TV-out, image stabiliser, Geotagging, Stereo speakers, gesture games, DLNA, video light, autorotate (the X1 needed to extract or close keyboard to rotate display mode).
One of the major marketing features use for the X1 was the use of Panels. With the X2, Sony Ericsson continue to support the Panel feature. Our main concern when doing the X1 review was the sluggish experience were it took forever to load and run some of the panels. Hopefully, the X2 will be much quicker.
Update september 28th: Sony Ericsson has released a Panel SDK which make it possible for developers to convert existing applications in to Xperia Panels. Java Panelizer turns jar in to a Panel. Flash, EXE and NET Panelizer turns existing Adobe Flash, Executables, .net applications into a Panel. The new Panel SDK for X2 also enables developers to produce Native Panels, Web (HTML) Panels and Panels with OpenGL ES 1.1 support.
